Matthew C. Wakefield, MD
Dr. Matthew Wakefield was born in Ft. Polk, Louisiana. He attended medical school at University of Alabama, Birmingham School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. After residency, he spent two years as a general surgeon at Ft. Riley, Kansas. Following this, he returned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for three years as the associate program director of general surgery. After residency he also was deployed to Afghanistan and Baghdad, Iraq. He served as an assistant professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
Dr. Wakefield is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
Dr. Wakefield’s clinical interests include a broad range of general surgery with particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, abdominal wall hernia and trauma surgery.
